Named Goddesses, Priestesses, &amp; Unnamed Women are depicted playing the frame drum, the oldest known, most universal drum, dating as far back as 5600 BCE.<\/p>\n<p>The first named female drummer known was Lipushiau, the highest ranking&#8230;<div class=\"bg-margin-for-link\"><input type='hidden' bg_collapse_expand='69e79830bdf415078572361' value='69e79830bdf415078572361'><input type='hidden' id='bg-show-more-text-69e79830bdf415078572361' value='Read More'><input type='hidden' id='bg-show-less-text-69e79830bdf415078572361' value='Show Less'><div id='bg-showmore-hidden-69e79830bdf415078572361' >Priestess in the city-state of Ur, in Mesopotamia, around 2380 B.C.E. Throughout the Ancient Mediterranean World, the drummers were predominantly women.
